Book of Spells

Book of Spells
Originally uploaded by treasuretrends.

It has been much, much too long since I have worked in an Altered Book. I forgot how much I enjoy it. I love the instant textural look of the words on the paper. There's no blank white page staring at you hump to get over when you start with a book page. I also don't have to make any decisions about size. The best part is, if you don't like what you did, just rip the page out!
Ripping the page out is actually how the background of this piece came to be. I splashed some Antique White paint on the page, then a brownish color. Oops, not only did I use too much paint, it turned a yukky muddy color. So I ripped the page out and smacked it onto the next page just to get rid of some paint before I tossed the page away. Serendipity! The second page turned out just right.
It's somewhat ironic, however, that you can only see about an inch around the sides of the page I spent such worry on painting! So you'll just have to believe me that the page is just right! LOL

Trick or Treat

HauntedppkitlgCosmo Cricket's Haunted line.  It's definitely a Treat, I love it!
There is also coordinating ribbon  (velvet even!); Clear Stamps; Cardstock Stickers; and this wonderful kit.  The kit has 12 sheets of double sided cardstock; Journal sheets; Stickers; a striptease sheet and a project idea sheet!

Hauntedstamps500 The Clear Stamps come on a 3.75" x 6" sheet.  The stamps are going to be great for Artist Trading Cards as well as for creating embellishments on your other paper craft projects.

Love the ribbon, especially the scalloped velvet!  Did I already mention that?

Fence_skeleton_46k Here's a little project I made for the Treasure Art Trends yahoo group.  We had a Fence Swap.  I made my fence out of coffee stir sticks, painted the fence with crackle paint and decorated it with stickers from the Haunted Paper Craft Kit.  I used the Haunted rub ons for the Scary sign.

Fence_monster_arm_10k Another Fence I made with the Haunted stickers.

Itty Bitty's

Itty Bitty's are fun!  These are 3" collages made for a swap on the Treasure Art Trends yahoo group.  I used the Brookfield mini book kit from K & Co.  I barely made a dent in the supplies included in this kit.  The size of the embellishments in the kit were perfect for a small project like this or ATC's as well as the intended use: the making of a Mini Book...

What?  Use something for what it was meant for?  Where's the fun in that.  LOL

Row House Swap

Houses These are some of the houses that I made for the Row House Swap on Treasure Art Trends.  I had already made the required amount and decided to make a few extras for myself.  The first and last ones were made using 7 Gypsies Nottinghill Vale paper and 7 Gypsies Nottinghill Abbey paper.   On the last one I used one of the 7 Gypsies ATC Transparencies as a background for the image.  Actually, the image is behind the transparency.  I was sorting through a box of stuff that Keri had sent me and the little transparencies were laying out.  An image landed on one and I realized that it was the perfect background!  Kind of like when the chocolate fell in the peanut butter but more artsy.....lol  I used several of the ATC transparencies that way.  I will post another scan of one or two of them tomorrow.

Support Military Working Dogs

Dogvest Help support Military Working Dogs Project:

A project to provide cooly vests, mukluks, doggles and a toy to the working military dogs that protect our troops.

How did the idea for this project
come about?

Starline Nunley, a member of the Gem City Dog Obedience Club, started with the idea of helping her son, Major Parker Frawley, who is a Longbow, Apache helicopter fighter pilot stationed in Iraq. She asked him if he would like a Cooling Vest to help him cope with the typically very hot temperatures encountered there. His reply was “Mom, I am and we (soldiers) are all right. The military provides for us very well, but dogs have different needs. It is so hot that they are having trouble doing their job and that puts us all in danger.”

I created this Garden Deco with a 5 tabbed Sheer Album from Maya Road. You have to be careful about how you place your layers because of the sheer pages. But, that's also what makes them so much fun to work with! The layering possibilities are just great!

I really like the Genies Gems, from Imaginesce, as a center in the flower, bottom right.

This is the reverse side of the Front Cover. I layered the piece of paper on the front so that you would see patterened paper from the reverse side. Then I used rub-ons on this isde (the reverse side). You can see them peeking through on the front, and you can see the flowers from the front cover peeking through on this page.
